10/30/2002 - Aurora Launches Midsize Enterprise Products

Aurora Consulting Group is in growth mode. Business and project demands are causing Aurora’s highly skilled and seasoned staff to put in eighty-hour workweeks. There is no time to rest on the laurels of having launched myGroupWorks™ --- their latest product in full distribution.

Aurora Consulting Group began in 1997 with a focus on providing software development services primarily around the Internet. The company operated from the basement offices of the principals, grew and prospered, and now has a suite of offices at 1522 N. Washington ---at the very top of the Terabyte Triangle. The company has evolved in other ways as well, and today Aurora is a Premier Project Partner of Microsoft. They are one of the eighteen worldwide project partners who work in synergy with Microsoft to help clients integrate software and make existing technologies work together.

myGroupWorks™ is an innovative project management tool that builds on Microsoft Exchange 2000™ and Microsoft Project 2002™, integrates these software packages with other Microsoft technology, and simplifies the whole mix at the same time. “myGroupWorks™ glues all the parts together,” says Steve Trabun, Vice President of Business Development. With this integration, myGroupWorks provides a complete project and business information management solution. Project information, client information, and budgets can easily be shared. Control of resource planning, scheduling, and utilization is also facilitated by myGroupWorks™. By building on Microsoft technology, Aurora’s clients get extended enterprise solutions at an affordable price. “In the case of myGroupWorks™, it enables a business to accelerate and more efficiently manage it’s projects,” says Beth Britt, CEO and co-founder of the company.

Aurora’s special niche is working with medium sized companies and organizations. Medium sized companies have from 50 to 1500 “knowledge workers.” Aurora works with businesses to correct business and information technology challenges that impact company performance. Aurora’s Initiative ME™ (“ME” for medium enterprise) is a service built around myGroupWorks. A client company’s use of Initiative ME begins with a needs assessment by Aurora to define what the company needs myGroupWorks to do for them. This is followed by the implementation phase, where myGroupWorks is customized to fit the company’s special needs. Finally, upon delivery, Aurora’s staff teaches how to use, manage, and maintain the system. “We solve the problems that are causing our customers huge points of pain,” says Dennis Hake, Vice President for Program Development.

Aurora has a truly unique relationship with Microsoft according to Trabun. It is a co-operative software development collaboration. “We work together to design, create, and produce.” Aurora is developing methods for integration of .NET with other Microsoft components. They are building on .NET at the server level, extending these existing Microsoft solutions for project management, document management, content management, business intelligence, and workflow.

Aurora works for medium sized companies all over the United States. However, they recently learned, upon winning a Seattle based contract over a much larger company, that the fact that they were “local” was a major asset. The company plans to stay in Spokane and continue to grow into an international company. “We want to be known as the medium sized business solutions consulting company that you call for assistance,” says Hake.
