10/30/2002 - LaunchPad Blasts Off at the Davenport

A time to celebrate innovation and think differently, the next LaunchPad event, version 4.0, will be at the Davenport Hotel on Friday, November 8. The fun will begin at noon and last until 9:00 p.m. taking over the Grand Pennington Ballroom, the Hall of Doges, and the Elizabethan room. Like previous LaunchPad events, this one is free and open to the public. Highlights will include the long-awaited company launch of Vivato, hidden in ‘stealth mode’ for about two years! Vivato (formerly Mabuhay Networks) has 70 employees ‘secretly’ working in Spokane, oodles of venture capital, and some killer secrets in Wi-Fi embedded systems hardware. They launch at 5:30 pm --- a launch within a LaunchPad. As a bonus, attendees will get a sneak preview of Cyan’s new interactive game.

LaunchPad v4.0 officially begins at noon with an Employment Strategy Forum sponsored by INTEC. Any one who is frustrated with their job search or is recently unemployed should attend this employment strategy forum with regional employment gurus. The forum, in the Grand Pennington Ballroom, begins at 12:00 and ends at 1:30.p.m.

From 1:45 to 3:15 p.m., seven venture capital executives from Seattle and Spokane will discuss venture capital strategies. INTEC and Northwest Venture Associates sponsor this forum. It is also in the Grand Pennington Ballroom.

Meet some of the entrepreneurs shaping the Spokane region at a panel from 3:30 to 5:00 in the Grand Pennington Ballroom. The panel of entrepreneurs will discuss their roots and new projects. Panelists will include Terabyte Triangle mavens such as Kim Pearman- Gillman of Avista Corp and the City of Spokane, Rob Brewster of Conover Bond, and Greg Green of 180 Networks --- as well as Spokane Valley lights including Rob Nelson, Itron president, and Donald Curry, CEO of World Wide Packets. INTEC and ICM asset Management are sponsors.

At 5:30 it is time for fun and networking with free food and music. The social hour runs from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The music is by Sonic Index, the food by the Davenport, and a no host bar is available. The social hour takes over the ballroom, the Hall of Doges, and the Elizabethan Room.

The LaunchPad event really blasts off at 6:30 with Linda Stratton, News Anchor, KAYU-TV as Emcee. Senator Maria Cantwell will give the keynote address --- speaking into a microphone powered by Avista Labs hydrogen fuel cell! Followed by a special entrepreneurial award to Karen and Walt Worthy, Owners of the Davenport Hotel.

Fun, socializing, networking, food, and entertainment will continue after the program in all ballrooms. To learn more about the LaunchPad event and its panelists, go to:
