09/30/2002 - Interlink Advantage Covers Net Gamut

In 1995, Internet Service Providers (ISP’s), web developers, web hosting, and e-commerce were still new in Spokane. Web development businesses were springing up to serve a brand new need, as both business enterprises and individuals were trying to find their niche on the World Wide Web. Northwest Advantage formed in Spokane, and Interlink Internet Services formed in Post Falls. Both companies experienced some major upheavals in their short histories, and in 2000 Dene Gary of Interlink merged with Tim Chapman and Kirt Runolfson at Northwest Advantage to form Interlink Advantage. Alive and well in 2002, Interlink Advantage is now one of the oldest remaining ISP’s in the Terabyte Triangle.

Interlink Advantage’s offices and equipment vault are in a four-story refurbished tenement at 418 E. Pacific. Starting with a carefully husbanded T-1 line, connectivity to Interlink has now reached the top tier in bandwidth. As part of a fiber SONET ring that connects SIRTI, Inland Power and Light and Interlink, they have dual entry fiber from Time Warner. For even more redundancy, Interlink will soon have a wireless connection feed to the top of the Metropolitan Financial Center, hosted by Velocitus. They still have that copper T-1 from Verio. In case of need, there is a back-up power generator, so connectivity is both redundant and secure.

Another Interlink Advantage distinction is that they are one of small number of Inland Northwest ISP’s who can host and serve both Linux/Unix based and Microsoft NT based databases and Web sites. As a co-location site, they host an SQL server, and they recently set up a .NET server for a broadcast HTML e-mail program.

Interlink Advantage mainly serves small to medium sized businesses in Spokane and the Inland Northwest, but they do serve some large and international businesses. In addition to all of the standard Web site design, graphics, and database work, Interlink does dedicated hosting, domain hosting, Internet services, network systems, and e-commerce.

In order to provide high quality e-commerce capabilities to small and medium sized business, Interlink recently partnered with, and became certified designers for, ShopSite Inc.---a very robust e-commerce application. ShopSite lists features including the ability to enable an existing Web site, manage inventory, manage shipping in real-time, manage products that are digitally downloaded, and then put all the financial information into QuickBooks.

To augment their e-commerce service, Interlink Advantage has become developers for QuickBooks Integration Software. QuickBooks recently opened up the software’s code base to developers. Interlink is taking full advantage of the opportunity to build a Web application that can help their clients to use their computer and Internet connection for billing, tracking, point-of-sale (POS), record keeping, and anything else QuickBooks can do.

Interlink Advantage recently formed a strategic alliance with A Perfect Web to host InContact, a broadcast HTML e-mail program. This application is a newsletter management and publishing program. (To learn more about InContact, go to

ASP, Linux, Unix, NT, .NET, DSL, dial-up, co-location, training and support, flash and animation --- there is little Internet technology that Interlink Advantage doesn’t deal with frequently. To learn more about Interlink Advantage, visit their booth at the BizTech Expo October 15 and 16. They will also be giving seminars on their work with QuickBooks data integration, and on Web usability.
