07/30/2002 - Willow Wind Organic Farms Joins Terabyte Triangle

The Terabyte Triangle welcomes Steve and Margaret Walser and Willow Wind Organic Farms. Willow Wind Organic Farms have rented almost 6000 square feet of space in the former Knott-Atwatter building at 160 S. Monroe. The Terabyte Triangle location will house their corporate office and include marketing, logistics, graphics, and sales. They have completely remodeled the upper floor of the building.

Organic food growers that spurn agri-chemical technology nonetheless embrace information technology. At Willow Wind, there is special software to help with the organic food business, and the Walsers are building some new programs that have been designed especially for their business. The business uses a DSL line and the Internet, but does not expect to transmit sales over the Internet.

Willow Wind Organic Farms began with 40 acres in 1980. Its first crops were potatoes and carrots. The farm has grown to 640 acres in Washington and a 2000-acre farm is being developed in Oregon. The number of varieties of organic vegetables has increased dramatically. In addition to the actual production of organically grown vegetables, Willow Wind Farms is an organic food sales organization with contract growers throughout North America. According to Jim Slavin, Jr. of SDS Realty who handled the lease transaction, the Walsers relocated their large company from near Reardon to be closer to a good employment base.
