06/28/2002 - High Tech Maven Slates Presentation

From the SmallTalk object programming language to the mouse/windows computer user interface, the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) has been known as the sparkplug which ignited high tech ideas that went on to sweep the world. But, behind PARC, there have been a brilliant succession of human sparkplugs, one of whom, high technology pioneer Bettie Steiger, will be the featured speaker at the July meeting of the Inland Northwest Chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).

The presentation will take place at the Spokane Club in downtown Spokane, on Thursday, July 18.

Ms. Steiger is known as an agent of change and has made key contributions to the development of high technology, especially in the fields of electronic publishing and information management. A recent retiree from Xerox PARC, where she was Principal, Technology and Market Development, Steiger was recognized as a futurist for leading edge concepts. Steiger was honored as a “Woman of Genius” by Trinity College in Washington, D. C.

Following her work at Xerox PARC, she formed Steiger Associates. The company specializes in management consulting and strategic marketing. Steiger is also actively engaged in Executive Coaching and serves as a Director for several start-up companies.

Steiger is a founding member and is on the board of directors of the International Museum of Women in San Francisco and is a member of the International Women’s Forum, an organization of 3000 preeminent women leaders from around the globe, and serves on the board of The Legacy Foundation.

A winner of the WSU distinguished alumni award and a past director of WSU”s President’s Associates, Ms. Steiger now resides in Menlo Park, CA. She holds a Bachelor of Science from WSU, and an Executive MBA from the Harvard Business School. Barry Jones and Jan Krogh of Fidelity Associates Insurance Brokers are sponsoring Ms. Steiger presentation at NAWBO.
