05/31/2002 - Terabyte Triangle Seek Seven Wonders

Woodie Guthie sang it in the 'forties --- "The world has Seven Wonders / that the travelers always tell / some mountains and some towers / I guess you know them well" --- he had been commissioned by the BPA to glorify the new Grand Coulee Dam.

But now that terabytes have replaced megawatts at the cutting edge of technology, the Terabyte Triangle has launched its own quest for seven new wonders, to be glorified by awards at TT fifth anniversary events coming this October.

To qualify as one of the "Seven Wonders of the Terabyte Triangle" a candidate location must satisfy three criteria.

First, it must be located in the Terabyte Triangle, a fuzzy edged geographic district defined by imaginary lines connecting the Arena District, Browne's Addition, and the Riverpoint Higher Education District, or must be no further than one half mile outside this inner triangle.

Second, the proposed wonder must be a physical location with associated activities that involve high technology and high performance broadband communications, perhaps in a novel, massive, or creative way.

Third, the combination of location and activities must be visually exciting: It should be possible to imagine it on the cover of the October 2002 issue of Wired Magazine.

Nominations for locations will be accepted by the Terabyte Triangle Board starting June 1, 2002. Please e-mail nominated candidate locations, with a brief explanation of why it is being nominated and, preferably, a contact name, to Billie Moreland, TTN Editor, e-mail at bmoreland@rightland.com. Nominations may come from any person or organization interested in the Terabyte Triangle. Seven winning locations will be selected during the month of August by the Terabyte Triangle Board, and announced during the October TT anniversary festivities.
