04/30/2002 - Community Calendar Up and Running

A much needed Spokane community-wide events calendar is up and running on the Internet at Developed by Terabyte Triangle’s A Perfect Web, hosted by Contineo, and facilitated by the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce, the calendar is free for anyone to register, and free to use.

Registering is quite easy. Open the Calendar Home Page and click on Register to Post Events or Releases. A form pops up for information about your organization, which can be “for profit” or “not for profit.” After you submit the form, it does go to a real person who checks to be sure that the registrant is legitimate. Because of this, there is a slight delay before your listing is posted and available for use.

All are invited to post to the calendar -- business events, recreation, entertainment, restaurant specials, workshops, classes, and benefits. It’s all free. All calendar entries may be edited, or dates changed, at any time. “If anyone wants the calendar customized to their web site, we’ll be happy to do that,” says Brandon Tanner, A Perfect Web CEO, “but for that there would be a charge.”

If anyone abuses the calendar by, for example, posting inappropriate material or a non-existent event, the web site authenticator reserves the right to delete or inactivate the calendar privileges of the abuser.

A Perfect Web moved into the Spokane Computer Building last fall and has expanded by adding three more interns. With their expanded capability, they have taken the job of creating a web site for the Spokane homeless. This web site is to help manage the resources available to help our homeless citizens and to connect them with available services. “Constructing the site has many complexities because it must have a solid database engine combined with an extremely easy way for the resource provider to update their information,” says Tanner. “In addition, the site must be easily used and understood by the person in need.” A Perfect Web is constructing the site for the City of Spokane, which will control and update the web site’s content. The site is being built in .NET and XML.

A Perfect Web has been nominated for an Agora Award in the small business category. The awards will be presented in early June.
