05/31/2008 - Acquisition Creates: MWR an Ascentium Agency

Ascentium first entered the Spokane scene in 2004 when it acquired the high tech Aurora Consulting Group. Growing primarily through acquisitions, Ascentium is a fully integrated digital agency and one of the nation’s fastest growing, privately held corporations. Ascentium’s most recent Spokane acquisition is venerable miller.whiterunkle (MWR), a 27-year old, award winning advertising agency. The acquisition is to “further the strategy of becoming one of the top creative, interactive marketing agencies in North America.” Today the two make up one combined division -- and operate as two subs to that division -- “MWR an Ascentium Agency,” and Ascentium.

In January, the Ascentium employees moved from the Legion Building into the MWR building at 518 W Riverside. MWR has one of the most creative architectural designs in the Terabyte Triangle, and makes full use of the high speed connectivity available. The building itself is on the national register of historic buildings, and the interior is a cutting-edge blend of old and new. “It is a happy merger,” says Nickie White, public relations account executive, “but since it just happened we are still learning how to best work together. We have offerings as MWR, An Ascentium Agency as well as Ascentium. Together, our combined strengths make us an integrated marketing firm. We are a one-stop marketing and technology shop for businesses.”

Ascentium recently debuted at number 27 on the Adage top 50 digital agency list. Along with the traditional services offered by advertising, public relations and marketing companies, MWR an Ascentium Agency moves into the “digital agency” realm which offers “strategic consultants who help make the transition from advertising to engagement.” This means not just Web advertising, but moving into all manner of digital devices – cell phones, PDA’s, all manner of hand-held devices.

MWR an Ascentium Agency has about 60 employees. Ascentium has over 600 employees, with branches including Bellevue, WA, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Portland, and one in the United Kingdom. They are a Microsoft gold certified partner, and they use “Microsoft Live Meeting” extensively to conduct meetings ‘just about everywhere.’ “It’s excellent for idea sharing.” MWR also has a state-of-the-art conference room for showing off the latest work to clients.

As part of its acquisition and development plans in Spokane, Ascentium recruited Spokane businesswoman, Kim Pearman-Gillman to lead the acquisition, merger, and future development of these two businesses.
