03/26/2002 - River Bluff Ranch Designed for Fiber-to-Home

Once upon a time, it was averred that all roads led to Rome. Today, in greater Spokane, all connectivity leads to the Terabyte Triangle. River Bluff Ranch on Lookout Mountain is a case in point. River Bluff Ranch is an upscale, gated community with both natural, rustic beauty, and broadband connectivity.

The thinkers behind River Bluff Ranch installed an underground network of conduit and vaults to bring optical fiber to each home site. Tylite, Inc., located in Liberty Lake, designed the fiber layout. They also designed an Ethernet network to run over the fiber -- creating a neighborhood area network (NAN). River Bluff Ranch now has several miles of fiber optic cable in storage, scheduled for pulling this summer. Vendors interested in bidding on the pulling and fusing should contact Christ Heftel via e-mail at chrisheftel@aol.com. Vendors are also needed for the installation of the network-operations center (NOC), programming the network’s user interface, entrance gate controls and surveillance cameras, and security monitoring. Those interested in bidding on these jobs should contact Christ Heftel by e-mail.

According to developer Chris Heftel, the homes in River Bluff Ranch will be “future proof “ --- that is, wiring infrastructure that meets “automation ready” standards. These standards insure each home’s ability to function within the NAN and provide the flexibility to use the basic infrastructure as a foundation to build any level of electronic sophistication.

“Fiber to the home, and support services for telecommuters, make this new neighborhood extra special,” says Heftel. At its perch atop Lookout Mountain, River Bluff Ranch offers sweeping views including line of sight to many Terabyte Triangle buildings. For telecommuters, the NAN connects though the US Bank Building for bandwidth and high-speed connectivity through greater Spokane and beyond.
