11/30/2006 - Terabyte Triangle Welcomes NCA

Network Computing Architects, Inc. (NCA) recently opened a branch office in the Sirti Technology Center. NCA’s headquarters are in Bellevue, Washington, and in addition to Spokane, they have branch offices in Portland, Silicon Valley, and Las Vegas. “We make computers talk to each other – wherever they are – safely and securely,” says Eric Phillips, account executive, who heads the Spokane office. NCA focuses on small to medium enterprise level businesses. NCA provides expertise in information security, networking, IP telephony, training, and even provides some telecom services.

“The point,” says Don Flynn, NCA CTO, “is to solve the customer’s problems -- whether it is a business case or a technology need.” NCA helps customers understand and position themselves within a whole system in which each component works well together. “Every solution typically has a migration path,” says Phillips. The first step is to define the needs and find the client’s requirements. Working with the client, NCA then determines the best network architecture for that company. Starting with, and making full use of any legacy system, NCA defines a migration path to system components, in phases, to fit the client’s budget -- so that the client will budget for the right things. Finally, they will train the client staff to use the new equipment.

New government mandated security measures require many businesses to take a careful new look at their networks, and take steps to meet the new regulations. NCA takes “whole system approach” to helping their client’s address this need. “We start with the infrastructure,” says Flynn. “You can’t do real security without really understanding the network infrastructure.” Sometimes the infrastructure needs to be redesigned or upgraded. Following that, NCA builds on the system already in place to make the network become like a utility. The emphasis is always to make the whole system work together -- to merge voice and data to become more efficient and cheaper.

To help serve their clients, NCA has formed a broad array of strategic alliances with a number of other companies. NCA is a Cisco “go-to” security partner for the Pacific Northwest. Other partner companies include ShoreTel, Juniper Networks, IronPor, Infoblox, RSA Security, Secure Computing, and others. NCA is the first authorized retailer of SprayCool from Spokane’s ISR. SprayCool enables service providers to have new “intelligent” racks that allow more equipment per rack.
