Proposals Now Being Accepted for WTC Research Grants
Thursday March 23, 2006. Washington Technology Center (WTC) is now accepting proposals for its next round of grants which will be awarded in June, 2006. To be considered for the next round of grants, interested parties should complete a Notice of Intent form by March 23, 2006. Applications are due on April 27, 2006. Additional information and applications materials are available on-line at WTC’s website: www.watechcenter.org.

INHS to Move to Wells Fargo Building
Spokane-based Inland Northwest Health Services announced on Monday it has found a new downtown home for about 400 workers who’ve run out of space in the company’s two current locations. INHS, jointly operated by Spokane’s two hospital systems, will take space in six floors of the 17-story Wells Fargo Financial Center. The building, at 601 W. First Ave., is the former headquarters of Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities Co. INHS currently occupies space in the Holley Mason Building and Steam Plant Square. The workers will begin moving into the Wells Fargo building in October.

SBA Announces Washington State 2006 Small Business Awards
The U.S. Small Business Administration's Seattle District Office has named Spokane Businessman, Irv Zakheim, President and CEO of Zak Designs, Inc., as the 2006 Washington State Small Business Person of the Year. He is a Spokane-area designer and manufacturer of licensed children's dinnerware and trend-forward tableware.

In addition the state named four Washington State SBA Champion award winners for their support and advocacy of small business owner owners and entrepreneurship. The Women-owned Business Champion is Julie Prafke, President of Humanix Corporation in Spokane.

IRS Warns of Increased Phishing Scams
The Internal Revenue Service, noting an escalation in identity theft scams, is raising alarms about e-mails designed to dupe taxpayers into revealing personal financial information. IRS and Treasury Department officials have noticed an increase this winter in the frequency and sophistication of “phishing” schemes that use the tax agency’s logo to lure victims.
