08/31/2005 - New Headquarters for ILF Media

After months of planning and construction, ILF Media is now ensconced in their new home at 207 W Nora – the north-most tip of the Terabyte Triangle. After purchasing the building, a former residential dwelling subsequently occupied by a real estate firm, they completely gutted the premises and started over. The building has all new wiring with hundreds of cat-5 data ports, new walls, new floors, and even a new front porch.

ILF’s new headquarters has offices for producers, designers, editors, software specialists, and all the equipment they need to do their work. There is a small state-of-the-art recording studio. There is a home for the upgraded Avid nonlinear editing system that is the “biggest and best machine available,” according to Daro Walker, CTO. Their library system is now on-line so that while in the field, an ILF producer can retrieve any program on-line, and retrieve any spot off of a tape for immediate use.

Their system allows ILF to send video proofs practically automatically to out-of-market clients. ILF creates a body of work, e.g. a commercial, digitizes and compresses a copy for approval, then sends it out to the customer via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) over the Internet. It is much faster than sending it by FedEx overnight, and the work that arrives is of the best possible quality. The client can then easily request any alterations by e-mail. “We get the most out of our bandwidth,” says Walker.

ILF reports that they are busier than ever. Along with the move and subsequent increase in business, ILF has nearly doubled its staff. They have added graphics designers, producers, and editors – all local hires. “We have really good local talent,” says Walker, “there was no need to go outside of the community. We want to deliver really good work, and we need good people to do that.”

The new headquarters is very comfortable and cozy – quiet and casual. The ILF staff did as much of the work as they could – color design, painting, and furnishings. The interior is mostly in earth tones and tasteful. However, nice as it is, it is already too small. Plans are already in the works for expansion – including a 1200 square foot studio that will be built in the spring.
