06/30/2005 - PacifiCAD Relocates to Steam Plant Square

PacifiCAD has just created “very cool” new headquarters -- taking over the entire top level of the Steam Plant portion of Steam Plant Square. Using the talent and creativity of their thirteen employees, PacifiCAD turned the titanic old coal bunker into two theater-like classrooms and an employee lounge complete with pool table. Their stylish-looking conference room is reached by a catwalk overlooking Steam Plant Grill. Even their cubicles are unique because their dividers are corrugated aluminum. Their high tech systems juxtaposed against turn-of-the century architecture gives a true indication of what PacifiCAD can do for their customers.

PacifiCAD, a fifteen-year-old Spokane company, is a CAD (computer assisted design) software provider -- featuring CAD products for mechanical, architectural, civil and general CAD requirements. They are an Autodesk authorized reseller for all of Autodesk’s CAD products including civil engineering, manufacturing design, and architecture design. Along with the software, PacifiCAD provides training, technical support, and customer service for Autodesk. They resell to both commercial and government clients. PacifiCAD’s territory for Autodesk includes Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana and parts of Oregon.

Autodesk releases a new CAD version every year and relies on their dealers to provide the training and support. PacifiCAD trains the clients on the new release in their coal bunker training rooms. They will also provide On-Site training when requested for all of their products. They will do On-Site tech support and customize the CAD software and systems to fit the client’s needs. PacifiCAD offers many different classes monthly to their clients. These clients find comfortable quarters at both the Davenport Hotel and the Hotel Lusso by special arrangements with PacifiCAD.

In addition to their Autodesk clients, PacifiCAD develops software by contract for manufacturing, architectural engineering and construction, civil engineering and mapping disciplines. They have also developed products for direct sale. Currently, PacifiCAD has three full time developers on staff with expertise and experience in software development related to AutoCAD and other CAD design environments. Their software development activities include many clients throughout the region. In Spokane, they have developed products through contracts with Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood Works, Midco High Rise, Garco Building Systems, LineSoft, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, Lighting Control & Design, and Cobra Industrial Roofing.

PacifiCAD’s retail products include Corridor Optimizer; which optimizes earthwork and excavation volumes in corridor designs, and Design Point; which provides fast and easy-to-use tools for road widening and finishing (sidewalks, strips, etc.) Other retail products include Batch Drawing Conversion Tool, which automatically converts AutoCAD drawings in a user-specified folder tree structure to .dwf, .png, .jpg, or .pdf formats; Batch Drawing Block and Attribute Synchronizer, which automatically updates blocks contained in drawings; Batch Layer Conversion Tool, which automatically updates layer setting in AutoCAD drawing files; and Block Modification Tool, which provides an interactive user interface for modifying block definitions and instances.

PacifiCAD is owned by Debbie and Ron Reed. Debbie Reed is the President and CFO -- she runs the business. Ron Reed is CEO and Director of Software Development – he designs and manages software development. The Reed’s say that if you have any CAD needs, PacifiCAD can help. “Training, implementation of designs, software customization – we can do it.”

Mark your calendars for the PacifiCAD Open House that will be Thursday, August 11, 2005, starting at 3:00pm and ending at 7:00pm. There will be tours of their headquarters, demonstrations, and refreshments.
