04/30/2004 - Spokane to Host Rural Telecon '04

Spokane will host Rural Telecon '04, the 8th annual conference of the Rural Telecommunications Congress (RTC), October 10-13, 2004 at the Ridpath Hotel. For the past eight years, this annual conference has been the premier venue for understanding the issues surrounding the deployment and use of advanced telecommunications in rural communities. Four hundred people from all fifty states and several foreign countries are expected at this year's congress.

Past presenters and attendees have included:
Federal agency representatives (NTIA, FCC, Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Senate)
Industry groups
Educators and consultants
Policy and research organizations
Key vendors of hardware and software
Community and economic development professionals
Grassroots community groups
This year's Conference theme, "Putting Broadband to Work," provides the opportunity to see how investment in infrastructure is paying off in real time for rural communities around the country. Speakers will include experts on tele-health, e-commerce, education, and maximizing the broadband infrastructure, all with a focus on rural economic and community development.
