09/30/2001 - Velocity Communications Pioneers Courtyard

With an expiring lease and needing space to expand, Velocity Communications Group wanted to move from Carnegie Square into the downtown core. When shown the under-construction Courtyard Office Center, Velocity Principals Donna Lange and Kathy Maurer knew immediately it was the right place for them. Velocity became the pioneer Courtyard tenant, moving in last July.

Starting in 1998,Velocity Communications Group is a marketing and graphics design firm specializing in corporate communications. Their services include graphic design, copywriting, public relations, and strategic communications planning.

“Using a wide range of methods, we help businesses communicate with clients and prospective clients,” Maurer stated. These methods include brochures, newsletters, annual reports, and advertising. Velocity helps create corporate identity through logo design, business cards, letterhead, and web site graphics and copy. Going even further, they will help design the materials for--and help execute--trade shows. Although they do not think of themselves as an advertising agency, they design display ads, create direct mail pieces, and offer advertising direction.

Lange and Maurer believe that what sets Velocity apart is personalized customer service with an eye to detail. They value the personal relationship they build with their clients. Those who deal with Velocity deal with the principals, and they have 20 years of experience in their fields. “We believe in integrity, ethics, and good business relationships,” states Maurer. Velocity brings in their projects on time and on budget. No surprise that most of their new business comes from word-of-mouth referrals.

Although they have national and international clients, Velocity’s clients are primarily Spokane companies and many are high tech companies in Liberty Lake. “We communicate with our clients primarily by e-mail” says Lange. “We even send large graphic files and proofs.” However, Velocity doesn’t have any especially sophisticated connectivity. They use dial-up, a regular modem, and regular telephone service.

Clients do come to their Courtyard office. “They seem to like an excuse to come downtown,” says Maurer, “the revitalization progress excites them.” “We believe it’s all happening downtown.”

Lange and Maurer are very happy with the Courtyard, and found Wells & Company to be flexible and easy to work with. Their only wish is that they had more “company” at the Courtyard. “It’s an excellent choice for the small business,” says Lange, “and has the most reasonable rent downtown.”
