10/31/2003 - INTEC Assists Tools for Tomorrow

The Inland Northwest Tools for Tomorrow program hopes to increase student and community access to information technology in all areas of the region. Tools for Tomorrow is a collaboration between INTEC, Lumen Software, and the regional business community. Computer and Internet accesses can be brought to economically depressed areas by using Lumen's EzThin technology and older machines --- giving up-to-date computer access at a fraction of the traditional cost. Using EzThin means low demand on technical staff and no special Linux training.

INTEC and Lumen are seeking support from the business community, and the community at large, to provide funds to kick start the program. The cost to update a lab of 30 computers --- old or new --- allowing up to 1200 user accounts, is about $5000. They have secured funds for the Community Center that will serve as a training center for regional schools who want to benefit from this program. Tools for Tomorrow is now seeking some pilot donations to provide technology to schools for this upcoming school year. If your business is looking to dispose of older desktop computers, they can be donated to Tools for Tomorrow.

As benefits, the business partners will receive:

Mention in press releases and materials distributed about the program
Student desktops branded with the donor's corporate logo
A place to donate older hardware where it will truly make a difference
Opportunity to participate in all promotional activities

To donate or learn more about this program that will give everyone the opportunity to interact with and benefit from technology, contact Leslie Miller at INTEC (509) 444-6832. To learn more about INTEC, go to: http://www.intec-center.org.
