SBA Reauthorization to Help Women-Owned Businesses
The US Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship has approved a bill that paves the way for a stronger Small Business Administration (SBA). This bill includes major provisions specifically designed to help women create a new business of their own or expand one already in operation. Women-owned business makes up the fastest-growing segment of the small business community. According to Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), Chair, "with major portions of this bill geared to benefit them, I believe Congress has a unique opportunity to help women-owned firms achieve an even greater role in our economy." As approved by the Committee, Snowe's reauthorization bill contains revisions and enhancements to four programs for women, including: The SBA Office of Women's Business Ownership, the Women's Business Center Program, the National Women's Business Council, and the Interagency Committee on Women's Business Enterprise.
